Marriage Visa F6

  • Marriage Visa F6 is granted to a foreigner who marries a Korean Citizen and plans to live with his/her family in Korea.
  • Marriage Visa F6 is extended as long as the marriage relationship is maintained, which allows Marriage Visa F6 holders to live permanently in Korea, and there are no restrictions Marriage Visa F6 holders on all activities such as business activities, employment, and study like normal Koreans.
  • Marriage Visa F6 holders can apply to Permanent Residence Visa F5 or Korean Citizenship for maintaining multiple nationalities (the original passport + a Korean Passport) through the Simplified Naturalization Procedure after two years of marriage, which is only granted to Marriage Visa F6 holders.

The Advantage of Marriage Visa F6

1. Permanent Residence Visa F5 or Korean Citizenship can be granted.

  1. The Marriage Visa F6 holders are eligible to apply for Permanent Residence Visa F5 or Korean Citizenship through the Simplified Naturalization Procedure, which is only granted to Marriage Visa F6 holders, after two years of the marriage.

2. It is easy to extend the F6 Visa.

  1. The Marriage Visa F6 is easily extended if your marriage is maintained or you are not responsible for the divorce, the separation or the breakdown of the marriage.

3. Company Guarantee and Employer Consent are not required.

  1. The Marriage Visa F6 holders are not required company guarantee for getting a job and employer consent for a company change like Koreans.

4. The number of Marriage Visa F6 Holders is excluded from the foreigner quota in calculating the national employment ratio.

  1. The Domestic companies can only hire foreign workers within 20% of the total number of Korean workers on the Korean Employment Ratio. The number of the Marriage Visa F6 holders is excluded from the foreign worker quota, allowing those companies to hire a more foreign workers.

5. Working in all occupations is allowed.

  1. Work visa E7 can be employed in the specified industries, and Family Visit F1 and Family Visa F3 are not allowed to work. However, the
    Marriage Visa F6 holders are allowed to work without any restrictions like Koreans.

6. Business activities are allowed.

  1. The Marriage Visa F6 holders can engaged in all kinds of business activities without any restrictions unless prohibited in the Laws.

7. Free real estate transactions are guaranteed.

  1. The Marriage Visa F6 holders can acquire real estates such as buildings, houses, apartments without any restrictions, take out loans with the purchased real estates as collateral, and transfer business income and real estate sales funds to overseas if the requirement is fulfilled.

8. Attending in a school is allowed.

  1. The Marriage Visa F6 holders can study in a school without a student visa or permission in Korea.

9. Signing up for the major social insurances is allowed.

  1. The Marriage Visa F6 holders are covered by the 4 major social insurances such as Health Insurance, Unemployment Insurance, National
    Pension, Industrial Accident Insurance.

The Evaluation of Marriage Visa F6

  • The applicant of Marriage Visa F6 is evaluated for the following 3 Requirements and would be exempted from all or some of the
    Requirements below, depending on the conditions of the applicant.
  • If the application of Marriage Visa F6 is rejected, the applicant is not allowed to reapply for six months, you must pay attention on the
    document preparation and the required documents.

1. Requirements of the marriage sincerity.

It is the strictest requirement in the Marriage Visa F6 evaluation, and many applicants are not granted the F6 Visa because they do not submit the proper documents for their marriage sincerity required. Therefore, you must prepare the proper data on the first meeting, the marriage process, family meetings, your wedding and other evidence if you plan to apply to Marriage Visa F6.

2. Requirement of Income

  • (1) KRW 20 million of The Korean spouse’s income for 2 persons is required.
  • (2) 5% of the net assets deducted the debts from the total assets, which you have owned for more than six months, is recognized as income.
  • (3) The incomes of the direct family members in the same address can be utilized.
  • (4) The Estimated Income can be calculated from the yearly payment of the Health Insurance if you do not have a job or are a freelancer.

2. Net Assets (Total Assets-Total Debts) x 5%
3. Estimated Income (Yearly Health Insurance÷3.43%) x 12

1. The direct family members are limited on the same address.
2. KRW 5 million is additionally required if one person is added.

3. Requirements of Communication

It is the requirement to prove that there is no problem in daily conversation or communication between the couple. You must submit one of the documents described below.

  • (1) Certificate of Grade 1 on TOPIK
  • (2) Certificate of Level 2 on KIIP
  • (3) Certificate of Beginner Course in the King SeJong Institute or other educational institutions appointed.
  • (4) A degree certificate related to Korean.
  • (5) An Immigration Record Certificate for 1 year legal stay in Korea.

    Where do I have to apply to Marriage Visa F6 ?

    1. Your foreign spouse needs to apply to the Marriage Visa F6 at the Korean Embassy or the Consulate General in the home country of your
      foreign spouse or the nearest country. However, your foreign spouse can apply it to the Immigration Office in Korea (1) if your foreign spouse is staying in Korea with a long-term visa, or (2) if your foreign spouse has the humanitarian reasons such as pregnancy or childbirth, etc.

    How Do I prove my income because I am a freelance and do not have regular income for spouse invitation on Marriage Visa F6 ?

    1. You need to submit an Income Certificate with KRW 20 miilion for 2 persons for your spouse invitation on Marriage Visa F6. If you are
      a freelancer, a farmer, a job seeker, and a student having problems on the income requirement, you would utilize the following options (1) the incomes of your direct family members on the same address (2) 5% of the net assets deducted the debts from the total assets, which you have owned for more than six months or (3) Estimated Income calculated from the annual payment of the Health Insurance.

    We communicate in English for daily conversation. Does my foreign spouse have to submit a certificate of the Korean Proficiency Test ?

    If you communicate with your foreign spouse in a foreign language such as English in the following conditions, your foreign spouse is not required a certificate of the Korean Proficiency Test.

    • (1) You live in a country for more than 1 year where the official language is English if your foreign spouse’s native language is English.
    • (2) You and your foreign spouse live in a country for more than 1 year where the official language is English if your foreign spouse’s native language is not English.

    The Check Points for F6 Application

    1. The Requirement of the International Marriage Guidance Program

    1. You must submit a completion certificate on the International Marriage Guidance Program if the nationality of the foreign spouse is China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, and Thailand.

    2. The Requirement of Apostille or Consular Confirmation

    1. You must get Apostille or Consular Confirmation of the Korean Embassy for all foreign documents for Marriage Visa F6, such as Non Criminal Records, Family Registration Certificated, Degree Certificate and other required documents.

    3. The Requirement of the marriage sincerity

    1. The foreign spouse must prove in the Marriage Background Statement that the marriage is true by explaining and attaching (1) how and when the foreign spouse met the Korean spouse (2) the progress of the marriage in details (3) the meeting photos (4) the wedding ceremony (5) the visiting photos of both families (6) the SNS records (7) the remittance records (8) any supporting evidence.
